Protecting the environment is a responsibility shared by all human beings and is essential to sustaining the livelihoods of current and future generations. In the case of businesses, it is imperative to implement solutions that enable sustainable production models that mitigate their environmental impact.
Reybanpac, true to its purpose of nurturing people and cultivating well-being, is an organization firmly committed to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): responsible production and consumption (SDG 12); climate action (SDG 13); and life on land (SDG 15). Caring for the biodiversity that produce and, implementing technologies that optimize every resource that allows us to produce, and making decisions with future generations in mind are principles that contribute to the sustainability of the national agribusiness.
On this Environment Day, we highlight some actions to care for our natural surroundings:
- CIRCULAR ECONOMY
We have a circular economy model for reducing waste, both organic and plastic. Fruit that is not suitable for export is used to make processed foods, and another part is used to nourish the livestock of our business group's dairy division.
As part of this plan, plastic waste generated from the production process on our plantations is collected and delivered to partner managers for recycling. In exchange, we receive children's playgrounds made from recycled plastic, which we donate to the Wong Foundation. To date, this program has benefited three schools and three child development centers, bringing smiles to the faces of nearly 700 children.
Similarly, we incorporate recycled plastic-based materials into our export process. This is the case with our pallet corner posts: 90% are made from recycled plastic and the remaining 10% are made from cardboard.
- RESPONSIBLE RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
We optimize our water consumption in production processes through efficient irrigation systems and continue to implement water recirculation plants in our packing facilities. To date, 30% of our 43 farms have water recirculation plants in their packing facilities.
- GOOD AGRICULTURAL PRACTICES
We use precision agriculture to optimize resources, thereby achieving greater productivity while reducing our environmental impact.
As part of our practices for soil health and fertility, we have had microorganism biofactory since 2021. This has allowed us to improve soil fertility and prevent plant and root diseases, as well to achieve zero use of nematicides in our plantations since 2025.
- PROTECTION OF LOCAL BIODIVERSITY
We have dedicated 1,182 hectares of our farms as conservation areas that serve as biological corridors for the local ecosystem, representing 15.3% of our total land area.
In addition, through the Wong Foundation, we have been caring for the Río Palenque protected forest since 1998. This 110-hectare reserve is the only remaining primary tropical forest in the Upper Guayas basin and has been the site of multiple biodiversity studies.
Through sustainable, efficient, and purposeful production, we will continue to demonstrate that it is possible to build an agribusiness that generates value and cares for its environment.
