This May 17 is World Recycling Day, a date promoted by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to raise global awareness of the urgent need to manage waste in a sustainable way, promoting responsible production and consumption habits in the face of problems such as pollution, the extraction of natural resources and climate change.
At Reybanpac, in accordance with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 12 of the Global Compact, which promotes responsible production and consumption, we have a circular economy model to reduce waste and optimize the use of resources to mitigate our environmental impact.
As part of this plan, plastic waste generated from the production process in our plantations is collected and delivered to allied managers for recycling. In return, we receive products made from recycled plastic such as corner posts for export pallets, as well as children's playgrounds that we donate to the educational and child development centers of our Wong Foundation.
To date, we have benefited three schools and two Child Development Centers of the foundation, giving smiles to more than 650 children. At the same time, between 2022 and 2024, we have managed to recycle 805.44 metric tons of plastic waste within this initiative.
These actions demonstrate our purpose of cultivating well-being through a positive social and environmental impact that serves as a reference for Ecuadorian agribusiness.
