Teenage women received financial support for education from Reybanpac

As part of the Women Empowering Women's mentoring program, Reybanpac granted scholarships to 20 teenage women from the province of Los Ríos on April 25, so that these young women in vulnerable situations can access and remain in the formal education system. The beneficiaries participate in the programs of the NGO Plan International.

Jurlendy, one of the beneficiaries, received the scholarship on behalf of the group. The 17-year-old said she was grateful for this opportunity. Although public education is free, in Ecuador indirect costs become barriers to education, such as transportation, school supplies, internet access, and uniforms.

"I am very grateful to REYBANPAC for taking us into account and teaching us that as women we can make decisions and be leaders," said Jurlendy, who dreams of graduating from high school and studying business administration or systems engineering at university. "I would also like in the future to be able to work in a company like REYBANPAC. It would be great for me," she added.

For Diana, Jurlendy's mother, this scholarship represents a very important support. "I would like to thank REYBANPAC and Plan International because they are giving many girls the opportunity to obtain this scholarship, which I know is a great support, especially for my daughter. I hope these scholarships and opportunities continue to be implemented," she said.

This action is complemented by the accompaniment and mentoring provided to each student through Women Empowering Women: with this program, carried out jointly with Wong Foundation and Plan International, the self-esteem and knowledge of young women in terms of gender, equality, and violence prevention are strengthened through virtual sessions and family visits.

"The partnership we’ve had between Plan International and REYBANPAC has allowed us to support the girls in their female leadership and education. The joint work we have carried out allows our girls from Plan International and Wong Foundation to see the barriers and opportunities to fulfill their dreams, their life project," said Bryan Torres, general coordinator of Plan International Los Ríos.
