Segundo Wong Mayorga.

Entrepreneurial and visionary man. Segundo Wong ventured into agriculture in 1956 and by 1977 he decided to become an independent exporter. It was clear to him that the success of his business lay in the diversification of markets. Therefore, Reybanpac was a pioneer in the opening of the Chinese market for Ecuadorian bananas. Also, in the 1990s, he was a great promoter of other emerging markets such as Russia. That not only laid solid foundations for what Reybanpac is today, but also represented an important stimulus for the Ecuadorian banana industry, which at that time did not have the magnitude in volume, nor the market representation that it currently has.

Throughout his life, Segundo Wong participated actively in the Ecuadorian business sector and was creating new lines of business. Due to his role as a businessman, he received various recognitions from public and private organizations, among them the Decoration of the National Order of Merit in the degree of Commander.

Segundo Wong is remembered as a man of principles and values. Appreciated by his employees and partners. He was also an admirable husband and father. Segundo Wong nurtured a passion for the business in his children and grandchildren from an early age, and was concerned about being a great mentor for future generations. Currently, the second and third generation of the Wong family lead the legacy of Don Segundo, keeping alive his spirit of development, excellence and responsibility.

Chinese banana market.

In 2022, Ecuador exported 10.84 million boxes to the Chinese market according to the Banana Statistical Observatory (OEB). China is the main destination within the Asian market, which as a whole represented 5.05% of banana exports in 2022.

With the upcoming signing of the trade agreement between Ecuador and China, a significant increase in banana export volumes is projected. Currently the fruit pays a tariff of 10% that will be deducted annually by 1%. With this, the country will be able to be more competitive in the Chinese market.

For Reybanpac, China continues to be an important destination for its product. There are four decades of uninterrupted service to this market, and with the new trade agreement an even greater strengthening is expected.
