On February 20, Reybanpac was visited by Dr. Gert Kema, renowned expert in plant pathologies with emphasis on banana, professor and researcher at the Wageningen University in the Netherlands.
The previous year Reybanpac signed a collaboration agreement with Wageningen for the development and application of precision technologies in banana cultivation. During the visit of Dr. Kema, who is also one of the world leaders in the study of the Fusarium race 4 and black sigatoka, the progress of the project was discussed and the next steps to continue advancing in terms of achieving an even more efficient administration of pest control, diseases, fertilization and irrigation system for a better use of resources and continue minimizing the environmental impact.
“In Reybanpac we believe in the combined work between academia, research and industry. We are convinced that only by joining efforts will we be able to improve agroindustrial processes and methods in favor of greater sustainability. ” Vicente Wong, CEO Reybanpac.
Part of the project consisted in the collection of geo-referenced multispectral information and images to carry out these specialized analyzes. An important element will also be the joint work for the prevention and management of Fusarium race 4 in preparation to protect the plantations against an eventual advance of the fungus.
