On October 15, Vicente Wong was one of the key speakers at InnovaT Latam 2024, an event that enhanced innovation and technology in business. At a forum on applied technology in agribusiness, Wong shared about good practices, trends and challenges with Bruno Leone, president of the Ecuadorian Chamber of Fisheries; Merlyn Casanova, executive director of the National Association of Cocoa Exporters - ANECACAO; and Ivan Ramirez, founder of Larvia SA.
Our CEO stressed that innovation has been a fundamental piece to adding value to customers, being competitive, and aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
“At Reybanpac we are clear about one thing: technology is a fundamental tool for the growth and control of our businesses. This is clear from the shareholders to the leaders of each business, to our Human Resources department, by training people to generate a creative team capable of generating new ideas and solutions,” he emphasized.
Regarding the 4.0 technology projects successfully implemented, Wong cited as an example the development of a traceability system for bananas, from the reception of bunches, through quality control, weight, and packaging, as well as the control of transportation to the port.
“Product traceability is a relevant factor for customers and, therefore, we have made progress in this regard,” he explained. In terms of precision agriculture, Wong added that Reybanpac has a sensor system for soil analysis and a weather station with remote access that allows for better control and management of banana crops.
Regarding the strategic challenges that can be solved with 4.0 technologies, Wong pointed out the potential of using artificial intelligence to analyze market and chain data to generate cost efficiency and thus be more competitive in international markets.
“As leaders, we must foster a culture of innovation in industries that can generate productivity and efficiency, and that is aligned with a vision of sustainable development,” said Wong.
