2024-09-10

Once again, Favorita was part of Asia Fruit Logistica 2024, held in Hong Kong. The trade fair showcased Ecuadorian bananas' qualities and the company's value offer in terms of quality, service, and sustainable production.

Asia Fruit Logistica was also an important opportunity to strengthen bonds with customers in this continent, which is today one of the main destinations for our fruit and a market with great growth potential. In this sense, the company's objective is to enhance its position in this region, according to Mónica Molineros, commercial manager.

“We are talking about a highly competitive market, as Asia has other banana exporters such as Vietnam, the Philippines, and Cambodia. However, there is room for growth in this region. For instance, Japan and Korea have traditionally had a significant banana consumption, and Ecuador currently represents a percentage of less than 15% of their imports,” she explained.

According to data from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, China and Japan are the Asian countries that imported the largest number of bananas in 2023 with 1.8 million and 1 million tons, respectively.

When it comes to strengthening the company’s position in competitive markets, José Antonio Vargas, general manager or the banana division, said that it is key to constantly seek to meet the needs and demands of each market along with a sustainable premium offer.

“Thanks to a large production capacity, we have the versatility to offer our customers tailor-made solutions in terms of product and packaging specifications according to their needs,” he said.

“In addition, our customers can find in us a responsible business partner committed to sustainability. This is reflected in our multiple certifications for good agricultural, social and environmental practices. Innovation is an essential factor in finding better ways of doing things for the benefit of the environment, efficiency and productivity,” noted José Antonio Vargas.

Favorita will continue to focus on market diversification, advancement in the value chain, and a premium and sustainable offer with added value for its customers.
